Ex-Warrington Wolves man wants the “best coach” to lead England as he brands World Cup “a disaster”

Brian Carney today on Sky Sports branded England’s Rugby League World Cup campaign a “disaster.”
This came as he echoed something England boss Shaun Wane said himself.
Speaking about the former Wigan Warriors boss, Carney said:
“What doesn’t help is he said before the tournament that getting to a final and losing would be a disaster, so what does he make of getting to a semifinal and not winning? In his own words, the tournament was a disaster. It makes it difficult to extend that contract.”
He also claimed that the England job isn’t a full time job as he revealed who he wants to see take charge of England in the next World Cup:
“I think the easier thing to do is role the job on. I think the bigger question is whether it’s a full time job.
“I’d be happy to wait until the 2025 World Cup in France and give it to the best coach. Kristian Woolf coached St Helens to a Grand Final win and then took charge of Tonga without having his hands on those players for a year, so it’s not a full time job lets not pretend.”
Thus Carney believes that because the England job isn’t full time, it can be given to the best coach at any point, and wants this to be the approach in the next World Cup in France.
