Ex-Warrington Wolves man Sam Kasiano joins star-studded club

Sam Kasiano of the Warrington Wolves

Former Warrington Wolves and Catalans Dragons prop Sam Kasiano has found a new club for the 2025 season. Kasiano hasn’t played professionally since leaving Warrington at the end of the 2023 Super League campaign, but he has now joined up with Mackay outfit Souths Sharks.

The Sharks compete at a local level in Queensland, but Kasiano has become the latest big hitter to sign for the club following a career that stretched across both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Kenny Edwards was one of the first notable players to join the club at the back end of last year.

The ex-Castleford Tigers and Huddersfield Giants man took up a player-coach role with the Sharks, while also running a rugby league academy in the local area. Since then ex-Hull FC star Manu Ma’u has joined up with the club while also working as development coach in the junior set up and Mahe Fonua has followed a similar path.

Former Super League Man of Steel Ben Barba has agreed to represent the club, too. The 35-year-old last played professionally with St Helens in 2018, but he has taken up the chance to play alongside his brother Marmin.

As such, Kasiano joins a Sharks side that is star-studded to say the least with the forward providing a sizeable presence in the club’s pack for 2025.

Kasiano started his career with Canterbury Bulldogs in 2011 and went on to become something of a favourite at Belmore. In seven seasons he made 139 appearances for the club and scored 15 tries. He spent a year with Melbourne Storm in 2018 before moving on to join Catalans Dragons for the 2019 season.

The prop spent four seasons in Perpignan and helped the club to the 2021 Grand Final but couldn’t help the club get over the line at Old Trafford. He went on to join Warrington Wolves in 2023 but stayed just one year before heading back down under.
