Ex Wakefield Trinity and Huddersfield Giant man “can’t believe” the career he’s had as he heads for testimonial

Former Wakefield and Huddersfield hooker Kyle Wood has spoken on his ‘delight’ to receive a testimonial for his services to the game.

The current Halifax Panthers hooker is heading into his 16th season having debuted for Doncaster at a young age.

Playing for much of his career in the Super League he split his time between Wakefield Trinity and Huddersfield Giants, making the switch back to Trinity after three successful seasons at the John Smith Stadium.

“Being that little boy I’d have never dreamt of doing something like this and playing so many games,” Wood explained in a video posted to the Panthers twitter.

“Even now when I look back at my career I can’t believe I’ve played so many games to be honest. I’m delighted to receive it (his testimonial game).”

Wood has played well over 300 games in his lengthy career but 165 of those came during his time representing Wakefield, and a further 74 appearances for the Giants.

Few players can last so long in such a busy position on the field playing hooker so it’s testament to his determination and will that he’s played for so long in such a physical sport despite being only five foot seven inches tall.

“I’m looking forward to all the events across the year and hopefully some fans and some old friends can join me and help support me.”

Wood will represent the Panthers for a second season as they head into 2023 and they’ll hope to go a couple of steps further than last year where they crashed out 26-24 in the first round of the playoffs to York City Knights, despite finishing third in the table.
