Ex-Super League star questions Wigan’s mindset

Wigan Warriors recently have looked like the team to beat in Super League.

Their application in wins over St Helens and Warrington Wolves was exceptional and had them top of the league but they have now suffered back to back defeats including conceding six tries in the second half to 12 man Leeds Rhinos last night.

After the game, former Rhino Stevie Ward questioned Wigan’s mindset.

“We said Wigan usually get their mindset right, but that wasn’t the case in the second half even though you felt they were going to kick on,” Ward said on Sky Sports.

He also looked back to the first half and their inability to make pressure count as he said they faded away:

“They did apply a lot of pressure. They just seemed to fade away the longer the game went on.

“Maybe they need to do more when they are on top in first halves.”

Either way he respected Matt Peet’s honesty after the game:

“I respect that though, he is literally just saying how he feels and I admire it. He is going to be in a difficult position and feel uncomfortable because that performance wasn’t like Wigan.”
