Former Super League forward Craig Huby has landed a new coaching role in the Championship for the 2025 season.
Huby made 276 appearances during his Super League career with the majority of those coming at the Jungle – the prop forward playing 227 times for Castleford Tigers in his career.
Ater exiting the Tigers after the 2014 season he would play on for five more seasons, featuring for both Huddersfield Giants and Wakefield Trinity before eventually calling time in 2019.
Since then, Huby has moved into coaching and was appointed as an assistant coach at Halifax Panthers ahead of the 2024 season but he’s now joined a rival Championship club ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Sheffield Eagles have confirmed that Huby will serve as the club’s assistant coach in 2025 – joining on board to work with recently appointed head coach Craig Lingard.
Lingard was appointed as head coach of the Eagles in early December, taking the role just six weeks after being axed by Super League side Castleford Tigers.

Huby’s appointment was confirmed by the Eagles via their social media and club website, where a statement shared the news.
It read: “Sheffield Eagles are delighted to announce that Craig Huby has become an Assistant Coach with the club for 2025.
“The 38-year-old will become part of Craig Lingard’s backroom staff for the upcoming season, having spent a season Halifax Panthers last year, working under Liam Finn.
“Huby followed Finn to The Shay, having worked alongside him previously at Dewsbury Rams, where he helped guide them back to the Betfred Championship in 2023.”
Speaking to the Eagles’ YouTube channel, Huby said of the move: “It all came around quite quickly. A couple of weeks ago, I got a phone call from Craig and had a chat with him and then met for a coffee. It was pretty straightforward.
“I want to pass on my experience but learn myself as well from the players and the coaches around me. I’m really excited.”
The Eagles will be looking to return to the play-offs after missing out in 2024 after their form declined steeply in the second half of the season.
