Former Wakefield Trinity and Huddersfield Giants star Kyle Wood is set to celebrate his testimonial this year as he goes into his second season with the Halifax Panthers hoping to help them break into the top two after consecutive third place finishes.

Wood has underlined that promotion is the aim this year for the Panthers as they get ready to begin their season today: “That’s definitely the aim this year, we didn’t finish the season like we wanted to last year and we have a point to prove.

“That top two is very achievable in the season coming.”

The Panthers are third favourites for promotion and he believes the club has what it takes to be in Super League:

“The club Halifax is definitely going places, we have a new board so we’re building from the top to the bottom. We’re getting good players in, we already had good young players there that have been at the club for years.

“They’re carrying on building, there’s a good group there and that’s going to get better and better so hopefully they’ll be in a potential to grow and get that Super League place in the years to come.

“They’ve got the structures there ready to go, a good ground, a new board and a coach with ambitions to be there and players who do as well.

“It’s about building it all together and get that place.”
