The refereeing appointments were revealed today with Robert Hicks earning himself the Toulouse Olympique clash against Huddersfield on Saturday night.
Hicks has recently taken on a new role within the RFL, leaving his refereeing job as a full-time official to go part-time
However, Ben Thaler remains a full-time referee, but will be the video referee at Toulouse as well as the reserve referee for St Helens’ fixture against Catalans Dragons.
Former full-time Super League referee, Ian Smith, called the appointments ‘interesting’.
Smith first, tweeted: “Interesting week one appointments….”

When asked why it was an interesting round one appointment, Smith continued: “Just with Robert finishing as a full time ref then gets a SL game infront of Ben who is a full time ref and Ben is Rob’s VR in France. Rob will still be keeping himself fit and has obviously started the season in Championship in good form. Well done to Rob..”
