Former St Helens and current Salford Red Devils centre Matt Costello has found a new club on a season-long loan.
He will move to Newcastle Thunder with the north east club looking to earn promotion to Super League.
The 23-year-old is a product of Orrell St James and joined St Helens as a 14-year-old and made his Super League debut for the club in 2018, during a 66-4 demolition of Huddersfield Giants,
He went on to make 26 appearances and score six tries for the Saints before leaving the club at the end of 2020 and had also performed well during dual registration spells with Sheffield Eagles and Leigh Centurions.
His performances with the Eagles won Costello the Championship Young Player of the Year award in 2018.
Moving to the Red Devils for 2021 he has made 11 appearances for the club to date.
Already training with Thunder, he will be eligible for selection as of the Betfred Championship away game to York City Knights on Saturday April 16, with the Devils retaining a call-back option on the player throughout the season.
Speaking on his move to Kingston Park, Costello said: “I’m excited to be joining the club and looking forward to getting stuck in.
“I’ve been training this week and I’m starting to settle in. I’m staying with the boys in town so I’m getting used to my new surroundings.
“Thunder are an ambitious club and have made a good start to the season and I’m looking forward to getting out there, playing some games and hopefully getting the club some more wins.”
