Castleford Tigers did battle with Leeds Rhinos in the Super League yesterday afternoon live on Sky Sports.
Jon Wilkin, a Sky Sports pundit, has riled up Castleford fans in the past with some of his comments – particularly when the Tigers last faced Leeds in the Challenge Cup.
And, Wilkin will not have made anymore fans at the Jungle with his bizarre statement about the Tigers midway through their fixture.
“They love stealing the ball,” Wilkin said on Sky Sports.
“I don’t think a team steals the ball as much as Castleford.
“Leeds will have talked about that during the game – when I was at St Helens we knew that and took advantage of it.”
Castleford were up 8-6 at half-time after a Jake Mamo mistake enabled the Rhinos’ Rhyse Martin to dot down on the stroke of half-time.
Before that, the Tigers had crossed twice through James Clare and Derrell Olpherts with Jake Trueman getting a try disallowed for a knock on.
Liam Watts stretched Castleford’s lead to 16-8, but Martin got his second just before the end to set up a grandstand finish but it was not to be.
And, Wilkin, despite attracting the ire of Tigers fans throughout the 80 minutes, had some good words to say about the Jungle.
“It’s one of those stadiums that I absolutely thrived at,” Wilkin said on Sky Sports.
“It’s got a brilliant atmosphere and is one of the old school traditional grounds with the fans so close to the pitch – and the pitch is short.
