Sam Burgess has conquered most things he has put his mind to – rugby league, rugby union, SAS manoeuvres.
You name it, he’s done it. But, one area of life which he hasn’t delved into is the boxing ring.
And, for Burgess, he has now been given the opportunity to do so by NRL legend and former Cronulla Sharks powerhouse Paul Gallen.
Gallen is open to fighting retired NRL great Burgess who has never had a professional fight, but the bout would still generate incredible interest from around the globe.
“Sam Burgess keeps getting spoken about… that’s one,” Gallen told Fox Sports.
“I’m looking forward to finishing off my career as an athlete altogether in 2022,” Gallen said.
“I’m 40 years of age now so I haven’t got a lot left in me but a couple of fights this year will be good.”
Whilst Burgess is now coach of the Orara Valley Axemen, the former South Sydney Rabbitohs enforcer has flirted with the idea of putting his boots back on.
“I want to see if I can play a few games if I can get a clearance (from the NRL),” Burgess told the Daily Telegraph. “I’m contemplating playing. It would be great.”
