Ex-NRL star and Catalans Dragons man makes surprise switch after Wigan Warriors links

Catalans Dragons are undergoing something of an overhaul at the moment.

They’ve let nine players go most of whom are looking for new clubs whilst they themselves look for a new centre or two.

The Dragons let go of French youngsters like Mathieu Cozza who is headed to Featherstone in 2023 as well as Corentin Le Cam who could be about to switch to rugby union.

However, they have also let go of some experienced heads including the likes of Dean Whare.

Whare was tipped to join Wigan Warriors with Matt Peet’s side in the market for a centre or two.

However, they tied up their two centres in the shape of Toby King on loan from Warrington Wolves and former Huddersfield Giants centre Jake Wardle.

So, what next for Whare?

Well, he will stay in France in the Elite One Championship with Baroudeurs de Pia joining another ex-Catalans man and former Warrington Wolves back-row Benjamin Jullien who has been starring for France in the World Cup grabbing a brace of tries against Greece.

Whare is a New Zealand international and played for the Kiwis against Leeds in their World Cup warm-up.

He joined the Dragons from Penrith paving the way for Tyrone May to do the same.

Catalans are yet to sign a centre themselves and missed out on Leigh Leopards bound Ricky Leutele.
