Ex-NRL international star and Super League forward signs with new club for 2025

A former NRL and international star whose time in Super League fell flat has signed with a new club for the 2025 season.

Kevin Proctor signed with Wakefield Trinity ahead of the 2023 season but struggled to make the desired impact as Trinity suffered relegation from Super League that year.

The former New Zealand international would not re-sign with the club and instead made a brief move to France to play with Carcassone later that year.

It has now been confirmed that he has found a new club in Australia with the 283-game NRL veteran signing for Currumbin Eagles who play in the Rugby League Gold Coast competition – the club with whom he played his junior rugby league.

Proctor represented the Eagles before earning his shot with an NRL side as Melbourne Storm signed him ahead of the 2008 season. He would go on to make 179 appearances for the club and win a Premiership in the 2012 season.

For Super League fans, he will be best known for his sole season with Wakefield Trinity or for his appearances on the international stage. Proctor made 22 appearances for New Zealand between 2012 and 2019 – including eight games against England and one more against Great Britain.

During those nine contests, Proctor came out on the winning side five times with his final game in the international sphere being in the third and final game of Great Britain Lions’ ill-fate 2019 tour.

At that point, Proctor was playing for Gold Coast Titans after joining them in 2017 following nine years with the Storm, Proctor made over 100 appearances for Gold Coast but saw his time with the club end in 2022 due to an off-field issue.

Later that year, it was confirmed he had signed with Wakefield Trinity for the 2023 season in one of the biggest transfers in recent Super League history but it was a switch that ultimately would be considered disappointing.

Trinity suffered relegation and despite Proctor playing 21 games, his limited minutes were disappointing.

Playing in the Rugby League Gold Coast competition for Currumbin in the 2025 season, he’s the latest former Super League player to sign a deal in the lower leagues Down Under after the likes of Ricky Leutele and Kevin Naiqama.
