Ex-NRL and released Leeds Rhinos star signs for new club

One of the overseas stars that Leeds Rhinos released after the 2024 season has signed with a new club ahead of the New Year.

Former Sydney Roosters, Penrith Panthers and most recently Leeds Rhinos centre Paul Momirvoski has penned a deal with French Elite One side Lezignan for the remainder of their season after being released by the Headingley club.

His release came after a disappointing season for Leeds Rhinos, particularly given how much promise it held with the pre-season expectations sky-high.

That was mainly on account of the recruitment that the club had overseen with a whole new spine being implemented following the signings of Lachie Miller, Brodie Croft, Matt Frawley and Andy Ackers.

One of the three rivals outside the spine was Momirovski with the versatile back signed to play centre and create a fearsome backline that would profit from the playmaking ability recruited in the spine.

Sadly for the Rhinos, it didn’t work out that way with Leeds missing the play-offs for the second successive year triggering more squad overhaul at the end of the season – something that Momirovski was a victim of.

Released Leeds Rhinos centre Paul Momirovski signs with new club

In late October, it was confirmed that Momirovski had been released with the Australian’s two-year deal being cut short. His release would free up the overseas quota spot that the club would then fill when signing Parramatta Eels winger Maika Sivo.

During his one season with Leeds Rhinos, Momirovski played 24 games and scored seven tries but ultimately exited the club – however, he has now signed elsewhere.

French Elite One club Lezignan have confirmed that they have signed the 28-year-old for the remainder of the season with the campaign currently just nine games deep.

Lezignan currently sit in ninth but are just three points shy of the play-offs and the acquisition of a player of Momirovski’s talent will no doubt improve their squad.

Per Treize Mondial, the versatile back could move into the halves after fellow Australian Connor O’Beirne left the club and signed for London Broncos ahead of the 2025 campaign.

Momirovski’s signing was announced by the club on their social media. Commenting on the move, he said: “I am looking forward to arriving in Lezignan and having a good second half of the season with the team. I am really looking forward to playing in front of the club’s supporters.”
