A former London Broncos player has signed for an Australian club after London’s relegation from Super League.
Centre Robbie Storey has signed with Queensland Cup outfit Townsville Blackhawks, the feeder team for NRL club South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Formerly of Dewsbury, Doncaster and Keighley, Storey joined the Broncos ahead of their 2024 season in Super League but he left the capital club after just one season following the expiration of his contract.
London finished at the foot of Super League and then saw their relegation confirmed when the IMG grades were revealed in late October, condemning them to a season in the Championship.
Unfortunately for the Broncos, their fate had effectively been sealed before a ball was kicked in 2024 given their lowly IMG score meaning that the players they signed generally arrived on one-year deals – hence the mass exodus at the end of the 2024 season.
Storey was among those to leave and the 25-year-old has now found his new club Down Under.
Former Super League man signs with Australian club
Storey, who played 17 games for the Broncos during their Super League campaign has signed with Souths feeder team Townsville Blackhawks – a club that have signed several other English players for 2025.
Previously, the Blackhawks had announced the signing of Leigh Leopards utility Tom Nisbet as well as two Warrington Wolves youngsters Alfie Maher and Pat Irwin have also signed for the club.
Storey will also reunite with former London Broncos teammate Jack Campagnolo after the half-back was another to sign for the Blackhawks ahead of the 2025 season.
The vast majority of London’s squad have left them with a select few remaining including Marcus Stock, Lewis Bienik, Sadiq Adebiyi, Will Lovell and Alex Walker.
Campagnolo and Storey are the only London players to sign with Australian sides with the majority remaining in England, barring Rob Butler (Toulouse Olympique) and the trio of Ethan Natoli, Ugo Tison (loanee) and Hakim Miloudi all signing with Pia Donkeys.
