Ex-Leigh Leopards star Matt Moylan signs with club for 2025

Former Leigh Leopards playmaker Matt Moylan has signed for a new club ahead of the 2025 season after ‘retiring’ in 2024.

Moylan signed for Leigh ahead of the 2024 season on a two-year deal but he shocked everyone, including those at the Leopards, when he announced his retirement at the end of the season with the playmaker then returning to Australia.

Reports then emerged that he could play on in 2025 and that has now finally been confirmed with the former Leopard opting to play in the Central Coast rugby league comp for 2025.

That’s the same competition that former Catalans Dragons man James Maloney signed up for earlier this year with the former teammates set to face off against each other having served as teammates when they represented Australia and New South Wales almost ten years ago in 2016.

Maloney signed to his boyhood club Ourimbah Wyoming Magpies and now Moylan has joined Kincumber Colts.

The Colts took to Facebook to share the news of Moylan’s arrival with the 191-game NRL vet almost certain to tear it up in 2025 given how impressive he was in Super League last year.

Announcing his arrival, Kincumber said: “Big news alert Colts fans! We’re over the moon to welcome the legendary Matt Moylan to the Kincumber Colts RLFC family.

“With an impressive career across the NRL, Super League, and international stages, Matt is ready to bring his magic to our field in 2025!”

Kincumber then reeled off some of Moylan’s career stats which tally 191 NRL games, 26 Super League games, 3 State of Origin games for New South Wales, and one Test for Australia.

Continuing, Kincumber said: “Matt’s skill and experience will be a game-changer for us, and we can’t wait to see him in action! Let’s give Matt and his family a warm Colts welcome!”

His former team Leigh Leopards found themselves in an record-breaking Super League opener with the match tied 0-0 after 80 minutes before Moylan’s former teammate Gareth O’Brien kicked the game-winning drop goal as Leigh defeated Wigan in Wigan for the first time since 1983.
