Queensland Cup outfit Townsville Blackhawks have announced the arrival of former Leigh Leopards man Tom Nisbet ahead of the 2025 season. Nisbet left Leigh at the end of the 2024 Super League season following the expiration of his contract.
However, he has taken up the opportunity to play Down Under and while it is a move that has been well-documented, the Blackhawks have now confirmed that Nisbet will be with the club from next season. He’s one of three players making the move over to Townsville from Super League with former Warrington Wolves pair Alfie Mather and Pat Irwin also joining up with the club.
The Blackhawks are coached by former Hull KR man Terry Campese and after just missing out on the play-offs last season, they’ll be determined to go at least one better next season with the help of Nisbet, Mather and Irwin.
The club have also signed former London Broncos half-back Jack Campagnolo for the 2025 season, with the Italy international leaving the Broncos following their relegation from Super League.
Nisbet started his career with St Helens but made just one appearance for the club, with his sole outing coming in October 2020, during the pandemic. He had two loan spells with Leigh Leopards in the Championship before joining the club permanently following the expiration of his contract at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
Unfortunately he found game time hard to come by with the Leopards in Super League, with the centre making just a handful of outings in the top flight over the last couple of seasons and he spent time away from the Leigh Sports Village on loan at Rochdale Hornets and Widnes Vikings.
After a period of frustration in Super League, the 25-year-old will be hoping to find more traction under Campese in Australia, of that there is no doubt.
