Ex-Leeds Rhinos target Tariq Sims set to make shock move

Tariq Sims will be leaving St George Illawarra Dragons at the end of 2022 – or before if he can find a club.

Sims had been linked with a move to Super League side Leeds Rhinos last year, but nothing came of it and the rampaging forward stopped in the NRL.

After earning State of Origin appearances, it is perhaps baffling that the Dragons are willing to let go of him, but there are no shortage of suitors – including both in the NRL and Super League with Parramatta Eels previously thought to be winning the race.

However, it is Melbourne Storm that are set to sign the Fijian international, according to the World Wide of Sports.

“I think you will find that he’s agreed to go to the Storm next year,” Weidler revealed on Nine’s 100% Footy.

“I don’t think a contract has been signed, but in principle he’s agreed. He’s ready to make that move (to the Storm).”

As many as eight clubs were said to be chasing him before Christmas, but now Sims is keen to prove himself.

“I’m under no illusion what’s at stake but I’m always one to run towards the competition and prove myself,” Sims told Channel 9.

“It was very emotional at the start (when he knew he wouldn’t be staying), it’s a business and I love my Dragons.

“I’ve never taken anything for granted pulling on the jersey – before every game, before I put my jersey on, I smell it and I think about my family, my teammates and those who have pulled it on before me and making sure I represent them the best I can.

“To pull on the Red Vee again is very exciting.”
