Ex-Leeds Rhinos target Tariq Sims set for shock move

It had been a case of will he won’t he regarding the exit of Tariq Sims at the end of the 2021 season.

With Leeds Rhinos a rumoured destination, it was thought that Sims could enjoy a British dalliance towards the end of his career – much like his brothers Ashton and Korbin.

However, whilst the St George Illawarra Dragons seem committed to allowing the powerful forward leave at the end of the 2022 season, it appears as though Super League will not be his destination.

Though the Wests Tigers continue to be linked most heavily with Sims, it is thought the quickest possible deal is the one which the forward will favour, which means that the Sydney Roosters have come into contention.

The Dragons have reportedly been happy for Sims to leave if a deal can be found that is suitable for club and player with the New South Wales Origin representative wanting to get his future sorted sooner rather than later.

Paul Kent told NRL 360 on Monday evening (Australian time) that it was a deal that could go ahead if Sydney went about restructuring their salary cap in the right manner.

“The Roosters are denying it but I think it is watch this space,” Kent said.

“I think the Roosters at the moment don’t have the salary cap space so they’re keeping it a bit quiet but it’s around.”

Leeds, however, now have a full quota given the arrivals of Aidan Sezer, Blake Austin and David Fusitu’a whilst St Helens forward James Bentley has also arrived at Headingley.
