Ex-Leeds Rhinos star Luke Gale could make Keighley Cougars debut against former club

Yesterday Keighley Cougars shocked the rugby league world when they announced the signing of former Man of Steel Luke Gale.

Gale was left looking for a club in 2023 after he was let go by Hull FC a year after leaving home town club Leeds Rhinos.

His time at Headingley was a mixed bag. In his first season, he was appointed captain and went on to lift the Challenge Cup after his drop goal defeated Salford Red Devils at Wembley in 2020.

However, in his second season he struggled with injuries and had the captaincy taken off him before leaving the club.

Though his second stint at Leeds was a success, his best rugby came at Castleford Tigers where he won the Man of Steel in 2017 guiding the club to the Grand Final in a year where he also played in the World Cup Final.

This came after Dream Team appearances during his first years with the Tigers prior to leading them to the League Leaders’ Shield in 2017.

This came alongside Jake Webster who he joins at Keighley ahead of his testimonial which sees them take on the Tigers in pre-season thus Gale’s Cougar debut could come against his former club and the club where he played his best rugby.
