Hull KR can’t be satisfied just getting to the Grand Final claims ex-Leeds Rhinos man Rhyse Martin as the new signing outlines 2025’s goals.
The Robins made it to their maiden Grand Final in 2024 with Willie Peters’ side eventually losing 9-2 to Wigan Warriors at Old Trafford but Hull KR must kick on, claims new recruit Martin.
Martin has signed from Leeds Rhinos and is one of the biggest additions at Hull KR ahead of the new campaign with the Papua New Guinean international earning Dream Team honours in 2024.
He’ll compete with the likes of James Batchelor, Dean Hadley, Kelepi Tanginoa and others for a starting role in the second-row which highlights the squad depth at the club.
With such talent, Martin has claimed of the Grand Final that Hull KR “can’t be satisfied with getting there” but must win one.
“Getting to a Grand Final, you can’t be satisfied with getting there. You want to win one,” he explained in a YouTube video filmed whilst at the club’s warm-weather training camp.
“I think the hunger in the group is that we want to get that trophy and the squad that we’ve got – we know what it is capable of.”
Hull KR signing ‘can’t wait’ to start as silverware goal outlined
Martin will be one of dozens of new signings in Super League making such claims, and he knows that, but he has explained how sticking to core principles will take the Robins close to their goal.
He explained: “Everyone says that before the season though so we just want to do the job for our teammates the best that we can and work on our key objectives and our values in the team.
“We want to win a trophy this year, everyone does, but I’m confident that if everyone does their job then we’ll get close enough or get there.
“(It’s about) not being satisfied with just getting to a Grand Final and still having that hunger which is here in camp at the moment.”
Hull KR will host Castleford Tigers in Round One of Super League and Martin can’t wait to get there with the forward also recalling the Craven Park atmosphere from when he saw Leeds Rhinos’ play-off hopes dashed in 2024.
“For now, I want to just get to Round One fit and healthy and be playing my best footy for the team then we’ll take it from there,” he explained.
“I can’t wait, my last game of last season was at Craven Park and the fans and atmosphere were unbelievable so I’m really looking forward to putting on the red and white of Hull KR.
“I can’t wait to get out there and represent the club.”
