Luke Gale knows all about Leeds Rhinos and Tom Burgess.
The 2017 Man of Steel Gale is a product of the Rhinos academy and returned to the club in 2020 having two excellent seasons as he captained the side and was at the heart of the Rhinos’ Challenge Cup Final win over Salford Red Devils at Wembley.
Gale has also played alongside Tom Burgess as the two helped guide England to the Rugby League World Cup Final in 2017.
So, he knows Burgess and he knows Leeds and recently there has been speculation that Burgess could join the Rhinos after he expressed an openness to a Super League switch and certainly to the team he grew up supporting: the Rhinos.
Now, Gale has backed him to make the decision.
Speaking on beloved rugby league podcast the Full 80 Minutes, Gale said he thinks the South Sydney Rabbitohs prop would like to make the move and believes that Leeds is the club he wants to go to: “He’s been an unreal front rower for years and I think he’ll want to come over here, I think he would.
“I honestly think he would come over. That would be the team that he’d want to go to I reckon.”
Burgess is currently contracted to the Rabbitohs for 2023 but that is the final year of his current deal.
So, after this he could be open to making the move but the potential return of twin brother George to the Bunnies could get in the way of this.
