Ex-Leeds Rhinos forward Ryan Bailey gives his opinion on the RFL’s crackdown of foul play

The RFL’s Disciplinary Match Review Panel has been exercising its authority recently, banning the likes of Luke Gale for five games and James Bentley for four games.

Incidents such as scuffles and punching have been heavily punished with Gil Dudson getting three matches for a punch in Catalans Dragons’ defeat to St Helens in round one.

For former Leeds Rhinos heavyweight, Ryan Bailey, he made his feelings loud and clear on social media giant, Instagram.

An Instagram page called ‘Sky Rugby’ shared a video of a St Helens-Leeds clash from yesteryear which had big hits and legal and illegal play.

The video pointed to one point in the game at Knowsley Road when Saints forward Maurie Fa’asavalu was hit with Bailey’s shoulder.

The caption stated: “Crazy to think how much the game has changed, this was given as a knock on and play on, if that happened today how many weeks ban would be receive?”

Bailey himself couldn’t resist replying, saying: “Bring back the biff!!”

Known for his physical and aggressive approach to the game, Bailey was often at the centre of controversy during games and this one was no different with Fa’asavalu’s replacement James Graham certainly going after him following the incident.
