Ex-Leeds Rhinos coaching target set to accept job to work alongside fellow ex-Headingley hopeful

There’s been plenty of change over at the Manly Sea Eagles in recent times all sparked by the controversy of the pride jersey the club issued.

That sent the club into a downward spiral as their form evaporated and they missed out on the play-offs.

In the midst of this, the club made the decision to part company with Des Hassler in 2023 which could result in legal action from the former coach due to the fact if the Sea Eagles had made the play-offs, as they no doubt would have without this controversy, his contract would have been further extended beyond 2023.

Nonetheless, the club are now focused on the present and after bringing in Anthony Seibold has Head Coach, have set about finding an assistant.

Seibold has spent time coaching South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL as well as enjoying a stint with Eddie Jones with England Rugby Union.

Last year he expressed an interest in the Leeds Rhinos coaching job but the club kept their faith in Richard Agar at the time.

Speaking of the Rhinos, Seibold’s assistant will be former Leeds Rhinos coaching target Shane Flanagan.

The 2016 Premiership winning coach has been working at St George Illawarra Dragons recently but has been linked with the Headingley hotseat on more than one occasion.

However, he is set to continue work not as a Head Coach as he takes up the position alongside Seibold at Manly.

According to the Daily Telegraph and Fox League, the former Shark is set to accept the offer from the Sea Eagles which runs to 2025 but would allow him, after the first 12 months, to pursue a Head Coach role of his own.
