Ex-Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves prop Ryan Bailey rages against ‘scandal’ and calls for massive bans following Catalans Dragons game

It was a huge game at the Stade Gilbert Brutus yesterday evening between the Catalans Dragons and Leeds Rhinos.

It was a winner takes all clash with the losers bowing out of the Super League play-offs at the first time of asking with Leeds running out 20-10 winners in the south of France.

However, there were a number of flashpoints throughout the contest with missiles being thrown at both Leeds players and referee James Child at the end of the clash.

And, now Rhinos head coach Rohan Smith has called it ‘disappointing’ to see such issues spill out at the end of the game.

“It’s disappointing, it was a tough contest,” Smith said.

“I thought that the referee adjudicated things strongly in the second-half. There were 50/50 calls that went both ways and when the crowd kept roaring he refereed the game as he wanted which is good to see.

“To see our players treated like that it is disappointing.”

Smith was also unhappy with Sam Tomkins questioning decisions and he had a talk with the Catalans man at half-time as well as the play-acting that continues to rear its ugly head in rugby league.

“It goes on and on, every decision is questioned and challenged I was suggesting that we should just play footy and see who is the best team.

“There was a lot of them where players trying to milk penalties.

“There was a lot of niggle in that game that wasn’t instigated by our players.”

One former Leeds man, Ryan Bailey, has called on the governing bodies to stop the increasing amount of play-acting that is creeping into the game.

Bailey tweeted: “Ban people for diving not clipping someone on the chin! God it’s a contact sport.”

The ex-prop didn’t stop there, however, tweeting: “Embarrassing dive games a mess change the rules ! Players should have say , it’s their bodies on the line not anyone else’s! Let’s go Leeds.”

Bailey went on: “Sick of players diving … change the rules or lose full stadiums don’t wanna see it any longer ! SCANDAL”
