Former Leeds Rhinos and Wakefield Trinity man Ben Jones-Bishop has penned a new deal to remain with Sheffield Eagles for next season. Jones-Bishop has already spent three seasons with the Eagles but he will remain with the club until the end of the 2025 season at least.
The winger joined the South Yorkshire outfit ahead of the 2022 campaign and in that time he has been a prolific try scorer in the Championship. In 87 outings for the club the 36-year-old has touched down on 59 occasions, with 15 efforts coming for the club last season.
He’ll be looking to continue that form with Sheffield and help the club build under new head coach Craig Lingard, who has taken the head coach reins at the Olympic Legacy Stadium following his dismissal by Castleford Tigers. The Eagles finished seventh last season after a loss of form late in the campaign to ensure they missed out on the play-offs, with an embarrassing defeat to bottom of the table Dewsbury Rams on the final day proving costly.
Lingard will be looking to help Sheffield back into the play-off picture this year then and securing the services of Jones-Bishop will come as a big boost.
The Jamaica international started his career with Leeds Rhinos and made his debut in blue and amber in 2008 a few months before his 20th birthday. A loan move to Harlequins helped to establish him as a Super League player and he became a regular in the Leeds side during the 2011 season.
The winger made 83 appearances for the Rhinos in total, scoring 56 tries along the way, before moving on to spend a season with Salford Red Devils. He joined Wakefield Trinity a year later and spent five seasons as a regular at Belle Vue, touching down 64 times in 116 run outs.
He spent a year in the Championship with York Knights before agreeing to make the switch to Sheffield, where he has been something of a favourite.
