Ex-Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC man Leon Ruan is reportedly set to sign with Super League side Hull KR.
Hull Live have that story, with the suggestion being that the Robins will make Ruan their latest addition to the side as they ready themselves for the 2025 Super League season. Ruan has been training with Rovers on a trial basis over the last few weeks after being released by Leeds at the end of last season.
It seems he has managed to put his best foot forward in that time, then, with Willie Peters apparently ready to make him a permanent member of the KR set up. As such, if the news is accurate, Ruan will provide strength in depth in the Robins’ pack in 2025.
The 21-year-old can be expected to become KR’s ninth off-season recruit following the additions of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Danny Richardson, Eribe Doro, Micky McIlorum, Tom Davies, Bill Leyland, Lee Kershaw and Rhyse Martin.
Ruan spent just two seasons with Leeds Rhinos, but he did make 11 appearances for the club with one try coming along the way. That effort came under Rohan Smith in 2023 against Wakefield Trinity, the club Ruan spent time at as a youngster.
Just five of those appearances came last season, with the forward spending the final few months of the season on loan with KR’s cross-city rivals Hull FC. He made four appearances in Black and White, including one start as Hull struggled for traction at the foot of the table.
Ruan’s most active run in a first-team came in 2022 when the back-rower played a key role for Doncaster, who were a League One club at the time. He made 21 appearances for the Dons and scored six tries.
He’ll face plenty of competition for places at Craven Park, with the likes of Martin, Dean Hadley, James Batchelor and Kelepi Tanginoa already in the first-team picture under Peters.
