Ex-Hull KR man signs for Championship rivals in big coup

Hull KR

One former Hull KR player has swapped his Championship club of seven years to move to a rival club ahead of the 2025 season.

Will Jubb first joined York Knights back in 2017 on a loan deal before making the permanent switch for 2018. Since then, he has been one of the club’s leading players and made almost 150 appearances but he’s now made the switch to a Championship rival.

That team is Featherstone Rovers who are continuing their rampant recruitment drive with the Flat Cappers having recently signed three overseas players, including York Knights Sitaleki Akauola and Newcastle Knights duo Clay Webb and Zach Herring.

Domestic recruitment has also seen Derrell Olpherts sign as one of the Championship’s best wingers from 2024 and now, Jubb as one of the best hookers.

The 28-year-old came through the Hull KR system and debuted for them back in 2016, going on to make seven appearances across two seasons. From there, he was loaned to York who he would go on to make 144 appearances.

In recent seasons Jubb has been a near ever-present for York, making 86 appearances in the last three seasons but he now takes his talents from North Yorkshire to West Yorkshire.

It’s a move that sees him reunite with former York boss James Ford, something that Ford noted as part of the club statement announcing Jubb’s arrival.

“I enjoyed coaching Will at York and I’m very confident he’ll have a similar impact at Featherstone,” Ford explained before setting the 28-year-old a huge challenge for the upcoming season.

“As a player he has outstanding service from dummy half and is one of the best defensive hookers in the competition. His challenge, which I know he’ll face head on is to become the best defensive hooker in the competition.”

Jubb has only penned a one-year deal but he’s still a major coup for Featherstone given his pedigree and his reliability that he’s proven in the Championship.

A club statement announced his arrival: “Featherstone Rovers are delighted to announce that Will Jubb will join the club for the 2025 season on a one year deal.

“The 28 year old hooker makes the move to The Millennium Stadium from York, adding notable experience around the ruck to James Ford’s squad.

“After originally coming through the ranks at Hull KR, Jubb made his Super League debut for the Robins in 2016 before making the move to the Knights on loan in 2017 and permanently in 2018.”

Speaking on the move, Jubb said: “It’s really exciting for me to be joining Featherstone next year.

“I’ve absolutely loved my time at York, but I’m looking forward to a new challenge and linking up with Fordy again.

“Featherstone have always been a powerhouse in the Championship, and I’ve played in some big clashes with them over the years, it’ll be nice to play with them next year in front of their passionate and vocal fans.
