Ex-Hull KR man set to sign NRL deal after Super League claim

Hull KR Zach Dockar-Clay

Former Hull KR man Zach Dockar-Clay looks set to be offered a new deal by NRL outfit Sydney Roosters. Dockar-Clay spent last season with the Roosters and made six appearances for the club before seeing his deal in the Eastern Suburbs come to an end.

The playmaker spoke out recently about his willingness to make the move to Super League in his hunt for a new club, while he also admitted he came close to joining Hull FC last year. However, it seems the New Zealander won’t be returning to the Northern Hemisphere any time soon.

Instead, he will be offered a one-year deal to extend his time with the Roosters, report the Daily Telegraph, as the club strive to secure more depth in the spine. As such, while nothing has been announced by the club just yet, it seems Dockar-Clay can look forward to what will be his third season as an NRL player.

The 29-year-old started his career in the Parramatta Eels youth set up before making the move to Penrith Panthers in 2016. However, after failing to make it into the first-grade at the Panthers, he joined Hull KR in February 2017.

The hooker, who can also play in the halves, made his senior debut with the Robins, scoring a try in a convincing win over Swinton Lions in the Championship. He made a total of 19 appearances for the Robins as he helped the club to promotion back to Super League at the first time of asking.

He left after one season to join Townsville Blackhawks and he represented Blacktown Workers and Western Suburbs before getting his first NRL chance with Canterbury Bulldogs in 2022. He went on to make 14 appearances for the Bulldogs off the bench before signing with the Roosters last year.
