Former Hull KR and Salford Red Devils man Ken Sio has joined a new club ahead of the 2025 season. The winger has agreed a deal to join Campbelltown Collegians, who play in the Macarthur Conference Rugby League competition.
He’ll be with the club, who are based in the suburbs of Sydney, for the 2025 season after spending last year in the same competition with Thirlmere Roosters. The deal allows Sio to continue playing part-time after seeing his Super League career come to an end in 2023.
The 34-year-old started his career with Parramatta Eels in 2011 before his first switch to the Northern Hemisphere came in 2015, joining Hull KR on a three-year deal. He scored 36 tries in 61 appearances for the club and represented the Robins in the 2015 Challenge Cup final.
Unfortunately he couldn’t prevent the club from slipping out of the top flight in 2016 and their relegation led to Sio’s exit, with the New South Wales native penning a deal with Newcastle Knights in the NRL.
He returned to Super League in 2019, though, this time with Salford Red Devils, who secured Sio’s services on a three-year deal. The outside back found form under Ian Watson and in his first season with the Red Devils he helped them to the Super League Grand Final against the odds.
He finished as the top try scorer in Super League in 2021, with 19 efforts coming despite the club’s struggles for traction in the league. He bettered that tally in 2022 as he touched down on 26 occasions, but he was pipped to the top try scorer award by Bevan French, who scored a remarkable 31 that season.
After 104 appearances and 78 tries for Salford, he returned home to Australia at the end of the 2023 season.
Interestingly, Sio will be joined at the Collegians by his two sons, who will be playing in the junior ranks, and his partner Victoria, who will be represented the women’s side next year.
