Former Leeds Rhinos and Hull KR man Matt Parcell has confirmed his next career move, following his retirement from rugby league.
Despite being from Australia, Parcell spent most of his first-grade career in the UK following brief spells with Brisbane Broncos and Manly Sea Eagles in NRL.
He made 80 Super League appearances for Leeds Rhinos, including in a Super League Grand Final victory, before joining the Robins – for whom he scored a crucial try on his debut against Hull FC.
Since then, he went on to make 122 appearances for Hull KR, including in a Challenge Cup final and another Super League Grand Final, despite being on the wrong side of the result on those occasions.
He departed the club after the 2024 Grand Final ended their season on a disappointing note, but was part of the club’s remarkable rise from a lower-half side to real contenders for major silverware.

Now, his next career move has been revealed via social media.
Rugby League Cares, an organisation aiming to support rugby league players’ welfare – including post-retirement, shared a post to Facebook in which they said: “It was great to catch up for a coffee with ex-Hull KR and Leeds Rhinos star Matt Parcell to chat about his end-of-career plans with our Transition Manager Francis Stephenson.
“Matt reflected on his successful career with pride and is excited for his next chapter – he’s heading back to Australia with his family before hopefully putting his civil engineering skills to work in property development.
“A massive thank you to Matt for his contribution to the game, and we wish him all the best for the future!”
It therefore seems that he will not be taking up a coaching role within the sport – and certainly not within Super League.
He studied Civil Engineering at the University of Queensland, before putting that on hold for a professional rugby league career.
He’s therefore in a great position for life post-RL.
