Ex-Hull KR and Castleford Tigers back released from Championship club

Eden played for Hull KR

A former Hull KR and Castleford Tigers back has been released from his club just weeks before the start of the 2025 season.

Full-back/winger Greg Eden has been released from Championship outfit Featherstone Rovers with the club taking to social media to confirm his exit.

Eden had joined Featherstone midway through the 2024 season after being released from Halifax Panthers, for whom he had signed prior to the start of the campaign.

His move to Halifax marked the end of a lengthy spell at Wheldon Road with Eden’s second spell at Castleford Tigers lasting from 2017 to 2023, during which time he scored over 100 tries.

Eden had initially debuted for Cas back in 2011 before spells with Huddersfield Giants, Hull KR, and other loan moves which led up to his NRL switch in 2015.

The speedy back joined Brisbane Broncos in 2015 but left a year later leading to his return to the Jungle, which brought about the most prosperous period in his career as he scored 111 tries in just 119 games.

Injuries hampered him towards the end of his Castleford career which eventually led to his Championship switch, however, he now finds himself without a club just weeks before the launch of the new campaign following Featherstone’s release.

Posting on social media, Rovers stated: “The Club can confirm that Greg Eden has agreed to be released from his contract. The Club would like to wish Greg and his family well for the future and thank him for his time at the Club.”

During his time at Post Office Road, Eden played 15 games and scored one try but missed the play-offs.

Over the off-season, Featherstone have recruited heavily from Super League whilst also renewing key strike players in similar positions. James Ford’s side have signed players such as Derrell Olpherts and renewed Caleb Aekins.

Previously, head coach James Ford lauded the squad that his side had built – claiming “There’s 26 players at the minute and I don’t know what the best 17 is, which is good.”
