Ex-Hull FC winger finds new club following 2024 release

Hull FC

Former Hull FC winger Mitieli Vulikijapani has found a new club following his release by the Black and Whites at the end of the 2024 Super League season.

The Fijian has penned a one-year deal with Doncaster and will join up with Richard Horne’s side with immediate effect.

Vulikijapani spent the best part of four seasons with Hull earlier in his career after joining the club in 2021. He made 24 appearances in total, with eight tries coming along the way, but his last season at the club was marred with injury.

However, after spending a year out of the sport, the 31-year-old will be keen to impress with the Dons and could make his debut this weekend against Batley Bulldogs as the South Yorkshire side strive to build on what has been a positive start to the season.

Of course, Vulikijapani is one of a number of ex-Hull players at the Eco-Power Stadium with Bureta Faraimo a notable former teammate of his.

“I’m very pleased. My former teammate was telling me how good Doncaster is, about the fans and the atmosphere at the club, so I’m looking forward to it,” he told the club.

“I was given the opportunity to play rugby league for my previous club and now for Donny, so I’m happy to be here and to continue my career.

“I’ll bring positivity to the group. I know a few of the players here, the boys have welcomed me, the coaches and management too, so I’m looking forward to the season.”

Vulikijapani is still a serving member of the British Army, and he serves as a gunner in the 47th Regiment Royal Artillery, but has been granted permission to play for the Dons.

“He’s had it all his career. He’s been at a few clubs where it’s worked,” Horne said of his latest signing.

“We’ve spoke to him, we’ve spoke to people involved with him and we’ve got the reassurances that he’ll be available.

“He’s looking to get started and involved with the club and he’s got the same ambitions we have.”
