Ex-Hull FC star Josh Reynolds makes stunning decision to retire immediately

We have seen some huge transfer stories at late involving the likes of Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, Hull KR and of course the rumours that Hull FC are set to lose Josh Griffin to Wakefield Trinity.

Signings can be transformative for a club, look at David Fifita at Wakefield for instance, Jamie Peacock at Leeds in the past are Stuart Fielden to Wigan Warriors.

Big NRL transfers often have this impact but sometimes they backfire with many going one way or another.

However, Josh Reynolds had an up and down spell in Super League signing for Hull FC ahead of the 2021 season on what was reported as a major money move, before parting ways after just 18 months.

He was exceptional at first but absences took their toll.

On the back of that he returned to the NRL to try and find his enjoyment in rugby again and there was only one place to go, that being the club where he debuted in 2011, Canterbury Bulldogs.

The return wasn’t straight forward though as he signed on at Canterbury to a train-and-trial deal earning $1,000-a-week in stark contrast to the money he reportedly earned in Super League.

He would eventually earn a place in the top 30 and play seven NRL games for the Bulldogs but he is reportedly struggling with staying fit and now the halfback has given up his top 30 spot so the Bulldogs can sign Toby Sexton from Gold Coast Titans.

Having left the top 30, he has now announced the shock news that he will retire.

The 34-year-old broke the news to teammates today, announcing his last match will take place at Belmore Sports Ground this Saturday afternoon.

Fans will have one last chance to bid their beloved ‘Prince of Belmore’ farewell this weekend when the local junior runs out for his last and final game of rugby league playing for the Bulldogs NSW Cup team against the North Sydney Bears.
