Ex-Hull FC man Cam Scott has taken a swipe at his former club’s fanbase labelling them ‘toxic’. Scott left the MKM Stadium last month after seeing his season ended by a significant hamstring tear.
His exit brought an end to a seven-year spell in the Black and Whites first-team picture, making his debut in 2018 as a teenager and progressing into a reliable Super League player. Scott made 73 appearances for the club in total, with 15 tries coming along the way.
The centre will be representing Wakefield Trinity next season, having penned a two-year deal with the West Yorkshire outfit and as he prepares to link up with his new club he has hit out at the Black and Whites’ faithful.
Replying to Jake Trueman’s injury update, in which the half-back thanked fans for their support and outlined his desire to get back on the field before the end of the season, Scott criticised the Hull fans.
“People honestly don’t have a clue, toxic fan base,” he wrote on X quoting Trueman’s message.
Scott’s words prompted responses from supporters and the 24-year-old elaborated in his replies. He said to one supporter: “Playing at the top level ultimately takes a toll on the body. Injuries are part of the sport. Just because somebody gets injured doesn’t mean they’re no longer good enough. Whatever they earn, however they play they’re out there for a reason which most people forget.”
One Hull FC supporter commented: “The toxic fanbase that supported you since day one…” Scott replied: “No denying I had support from plenty. But those who in my time there went out of their way to message my family about me they were a bit different.”
Scott could well be playing alongside Trueman at Belle Vue next season, with Wakefield being linked with a move for the half-back.
