Ex-Hull FC man ‘signs for club’ after shock pre-season release

Hull FC - 28/04/2024 - Rugby League - Betfred Super League: Round 9 - Hull FC v Leeds Rhinos - MKM Stadium, Hull, England - Jack Walker of Hull FC looks on.

Ex-Hull FC and Leeds Rhinos man Jack Walker appears to have signed with a new club on the eve of the 2025 campaign.

Walker has been a free agent since being released by the Black and Whites in November at the start of the club’s pre-season campaign. Walker was one of three players cut by the Black and Whites, with Morgan Smith and Liam Tindall leaving the club at the same time.

Smith has since signed with Sheffield Eagles, while Tindall remains unattached, despite spending time with Bradford Bulls before the turn of the year. However, it now seems Walker has ended his hunt for a new club.

In a vlog posted on his YouTube channel earlier this week, Walker filmed himself driving to meet with a potential new club before adding he was close to penning a deal. It seems as though Walker has now finalised a deal, with a post on Instagram suggesting as much.

The full-back has reposted a screenshot to his stories of what seems to be a text conversation with his personal trainer in which the 25-year-old looks to confirm he has put pen to paper.

“Finally signed for a club,” the message reads. “Now we step up a gear.”

The identity of the club is yet to be confirmed, but after spending two months in the rugby league wilderness training on his own, Walker will no doubt be relieved to have secured a new contract in the game.

The number one started his career with Leeds Rhinos, breaking through into the first-team at Headingley as a teenager back in 2017. He helped Leeds win the 2017 Grand Final at the age of 18 before going on to make 75 appearances for the Rhinos.

He joined Bradford Bulls in 2023, his only spell outside of Super League to date before making the switch to Hull KR later that season. Walker spent last season with Hull FC, appearing 14 times and scoring five tries.

A real class act. Thoroughly enjoyed watching him turn out for Rovers. Shame the agreement was for just a part of the season.
Hope he has a great , injury free, 2025!
