The 1895 Cup preliminary round drew to a close as the winners look to face the 12 Championship sides in the first round proper.

This second preliminary round saw four League 1 ties with the winners remaining in the competition and potential Championship ties in the next round.

Here’s a round-up of the second round of the 1895 Cup preliminary rounds.

1895 Cup preliminary round 2 results

Workington Town 10-18 Dewsbury Rams

After an even first quarter, Dewsbury scored two tries for a 12-0 lead from Louis Collinson and Jamie Field.

Following half-time Workington progressed through a Jake Carter score just 2 minutes into the half before Will Evans’ try got Town within two points at 10-12.

Rams halfback Dan Coates grabbed a try in the 77th minute to secure a 18-10 win for Dewsbury, where they will travel to London in the first round.

Rochdale Hornets 18-16 Swinton Lions

Luke Nelmes got the Hornets their first try of the afternoon before Aaron Lynch and Ellis Anderson scored for the visitors for a 10-6 at half-time.

Rochdale scored first in the second half too after Duane Straugheir spotted a gap in the Lions defence before his line break setting up their next try for Ben Will to go into a 16-10 lead.

Dan Abram hit back for Swinton to make it 16-16 before Max Flanagan got a penalty in the 67th minute for Rochdale to set up a nervy last 13 minutes and the Hornets hung on.

Rochdale will face Oldham in the next round.

Keighley Cougars 7-6 Midlands Hurricanes

Keighley got off to a quick start, taking 14 minutes to get their only try of the afternoon through a Brad Holyroyd score before a missed conversion.

It took until the 50th minute for Midlands to reply with a Chris Cullimore converted try for a 6-4 lead.

An Izaac Farrell penalty goal for the Cougars made it 6-6 in the 61st minute before Farrell’s drop goal ten minutes later sealed the win for Keighley and a match-up with Featherstone in the next round.

Goole Vikings 26-18 North Wales Crusaders

The first half an hour was all Crusaders as they got themselves into a 10-0 lead, with tries from Patrick Ah Van and Joshua Eaves.

Goole responded with two Jamie Shaul tries for a 12-10 lead at the half-time hooter.

Josh Guzdek got Goole’s next try before a Sam Wilde try and a Jordan Gibson penalty goal meant it was 18-18 with 15 minutes to go.

With just seven minutes left, hometown hero Tom Halliday pounced over the line before ex-Hull FC man Shaul completed his hat-trick to cap off a player of the match performance.

The game finished 26-18 to the Vikings for their first professional home win and they will host Barrow Raiders in the next round.
