Ex-Hull FC man ‘in good spot’ after injury return with Wakefield Trinity

Wakefield Trinity signing Cam Scott in action for Hull FC

Cam Scott might be a new recruit at Wakefield Trinity, but he’s already a familiar face to most at Belle Vue. The centre joins the Super League newcomers on a two-year deal after leaving Hull FC, where he spent six years as a player.

Scott’s time at Hull actually came to an end in July after seeing a torn hamstring bring his 2024 campaign to an end. The 25-year-old had already wrapped up his move to Wakefield and the release allowed him to make the move to West Yorkshire early to continue his recovery and rehabilitation.

As such, Scott linked up with Daryl Powell’s side behind the scenes for treatment and to make the most of their physio facilities. And, while he wasn’t able to play as Wakefield charged to the Championship title and ultimately promotion, the centre believes the process has helped him settle in quickly as he readies himself for the start of the Super League season.

“It’s credit to some of the staff I work with,” Scott told the Wakefield Trinity YouTube channel. “So Chris John and Paul Hatton over in Hull, I have really good relationships with them, they looked after me for the best part of three months before I came here.

“Matty (Crowther) and Fish (Alex Fishwick) as well took me under their wing and we’ve worked really hard in that period when I came here. I wasn’t able to play but I could get around the team and kind of learn as I was watching from the side.

“That meant that once I came in here I could hit the ground running day one and I’ve not looked back. It just shows that the work I’ve put in with the physios and staff has been beneficial. I’m in a really good spot.”

Scott was fit enough to feature for Wakefield Trinity Boxing Day clash with Leeds Rhinos and after coming that clash unscathed, he’ll hope to continue making the leaps and bounds needed in order to nail down that spot in Powell’s side for Trinity’s Super League opener at Headingley in just over five weeks’ time.

“I was a bit nervous,” he added on the Festive friendly. “I’ve obviously had so long out. It’s probably been five months since I last played so I was nervous going into it and the Christmas Day, a bit nervous with that and trying to prepare around it.

“Once I got on the field it just felt like I’d never been away really, it felt like all the work I’d done in the off-season really paid dividends. It was a good strong performance and it really laid down a marker for us as a group so to get those minutes even though it was on Boxing Day was very valuable for all of us.”

On pre-season, he added: “It’s a short pre-season so it’s about getting intensity at the right times. The staff have been really good with that, we’ve hit the ground hard when we’ve needed to and they’ve pulled it up when they’ve needed to as well. Training at this intensity should lead well into games.

“We’ve had the Boxing Day game and a few weeks to tighten up on a few of the things we had in there, but the intensity has been through the roof and that’s what we’re aiming for.”
