Released Hull FC full-back Jack Walker has revealed how close he was to moving Down Under with an offer, that he ultimately rejected, made for his talents.
Walker was one of three contracted first-team players to be released by Hull FC at the end of the 2024 season alongside Liam Tindall and Morgan Smith.
As it happens, Walker has now signed alongside Smith for Championship side Sheffield Eagles meaning the pair are reunited and will likely form part of Craig Lingard’s starting spine.
Walker confirmed he was signing for Sheffield Eagles just over a week ago, however, he has now revealed that there was an offer to play in the Queensland Cup that he rejected.
The Queensland Cup is one of the feeder leagues for the NRL with NRL clubs often using it as a competition to blood their young talents in.
A number of Super League signings for 2025 have arrived from the competition including Castleford Tigers’ Judah Rimbu, showcasing the quality that is on show in the competition.
Despite that, Walker has revealed that he rejected a move to the competition with the former Hull FC full-back explaining why on his Tik Tok page – where he has provided most of the updates of his search to find a new club.
Walker encouraged fans to leave questions in the comments, something that has previously seen him answer about which fans are the best to play in front of in Super League, and this time the question asked him about playing Down Under.
He said: “So have I ever thought about playing in Australia? I’d absolutely love to go play in Australia.
“It’s always been a dream of mine from when I was younger.
“Recently, I just got an offer through from a Q Cup team so I really really was edging to go because I didn’t have a club but it just wasn’t the right time.
“My missus couldn’t take her business with her so her business would fold whilst we were over there and obviously if I was to go by myself, I wouldn’t see Willow for around eight months so that’s the reason.”
Having rejected any Australian advances, it means that fans now get to see Walker light up the Championship for Sheffield Eagles who cruised into Round Three of the Challenge Cup yesterday with a 62-0 win over amateur side West Bowling.
