Ex-Hull FC and Leeds Rhinos man provides latest on new club hunt after release

Hull FC Jack Walker Super League - 06/09/2024 - Rugby League - Betfred Super League Round 25 - Leeds Rhinos v Hull FC - AMT Headingley, Leeds, England - Hull FC's Jack Walker.

Jack Walker has provided an update on his hunt for a new club following his release from Hull FC. After spending just one season with the Black and Whites, Walker saw his contract cut short at the start of pre-season with the full-back being one of three players to leave the club, alongside Liam Tindall and Morgan Smith.

Smith has since signed for Sheffield Eagles, while Tindall is training with Bradford Bulls as he goes in search of a contract for the new year. Walker hasn’t been quite as fortunate in his push to find a new home, though, with the full-back still unattached.

In an exclusive interview with Serious About RL earlier this month, he revealed that he has been in talks with Leeds Rhinos and a number of other clubs, but their interest had cooled. And, as the full-back prepares to enter the new year unemployed, he has provided an update on his situation on social media.

“There isn’t a step right now,” Walker said on TikTok. “I’ve got no club, no one wants me!

“I’m just grinding away, doing my own pre-season, working hard and hopefully in the new year I can potentially get a club.

“I would never wish injury upon anyone, especially with the history I’ve had, but I think for me, that’s the only way I’m going to be able to get into a team this year if there is an injury that occurs.

“If there’s an injury, hopefully I can go in and do a job and hopefully if I play well then that club will want me and I have a contract and I have a job.

“Right now, nothing, just working hard. The quote that I live by is ‘hard work pays off, but no one tells you when’. I will continue to keep working hard and it’ll pay off eventually.”

Walker made 14 appearances for Hull FC last season, scoring five tries along the way. The 25-year-old has made 112 appearances in total over the course of his career, with spells coming at Leeds Rhinos, Bradford Bulls and Hull KR before his second stint in west Hull.
