Sheffield Eagles have announced the signing of former Hull FC, Hull KR and Leeds Rhinos man Jack Walker.
Walker was released by Hull at the start of pre-season alongside Morgan Smith and Liam Tindall and has spent the last two and a half months in the rugby league wilderness, training on his own. However, he has now followed Smith to Olympic Legacy Park after penning a deal with Craig Lingard’s Eagles.
Penning a rolling monthly contract, Walker will have the chance to earn something permanent should he catch the eye for the Championship outfit. He’ll have his first opportunity to shine this weekend, it seems too, with the Eagles confirming that Walker will be part of the travelling squad to face Doncaster this weekend in a friendly.
That clash will be followed by a Challenge Cup second round tie against either West Bowling or Cutsyke Raiders next weekend.
Walker becomes just the latest former Super League player the Red and Golds have signed this winter with Smith, Masi Matongo, Corey Johnson and Reiss Butterworth being amongst those to join the club. With ex-Castleford Tigers man Craig Lingard taking the head coach reins over the off-season, too, the Eagles have a fresh feel heading into 2025.

The full-back won’t be without internal competition, though, with number one Matty Marsh being recognised as a leader within the group after being handed vice-captaincy duties.
This will be Walker’ second spell in the Championship following a brief stint with Bradford Bulls back in 2023. That followed the 25-year-old’s exit from Leeds, where he made 75 appearances, scored 22 tries and won the Super League Grand Final as a teenager.
He joined Hull FC ahead of the 2024 Super League campaign and made 14 appearances before being deemed to be surplus to requirements. As such, it’s clear that he’ll have something of a point to prove after joining the Eagles.
