Ex-Hull FC and Hull KR hooker Josh Hodgson’s incredible deal revealed

The name Josh Hodgson has seemingly disappeared from the limelight in the past few months.

And, for good reason, with the former Hull FC and Hull KR hooker currently sat out with a devastating injury that ruled him out of the whole 2022 season.

With a World Cup lurking at the end of the year, too, 2022 has been a complete write off for Canberra Raiders’ Josh Hodgson.

Ahead of his move to the Parramatta Eels for the 2023 NRL season, the Daily Telegraph has revealed its NRL Rich 100 List with the highest-paid players in the Australian competition.

It’s fair to say that Hodgson is on a fair whack with a contract of $720,000 at the Raiders – which equates to just under £418,000 in British pound sterling.

To say such a figure would make Super League clubs’ eyes water is an understatement to say the least, but Hodgson has been one of the top hookers in the NRL for a number of years now, though his winding down in recent years influenced Canberra to get rid of the hooker.

And, with the Sydney Morning Herald previously reporting that Parramatta have an option in their favour to trigger the final year of Hodgson’s two-year contract, which expires at the end of 2024, Hodgson faces an uncertain future.

Hodgson has had to undergo a serious knee reconstruction after going down in Canberra Raiders’ first game of the season against the Cronulla Sharks.

The hooker now faces a race against time to be fit for his first season in Parramatta colours in 2023, with the blue and yellow jersey eagerly awaiting the England international.

The 32-year-old has scored 14 tries in 138 games for the Raiders since debuting for the NRL back in 2015, whilst he has also scored 37 tries in 136 Super League games for Hull KR and has played 23 Tests for England and Great Britain.
