Ex-Castleford Tigers winger Justin Carney pictured making debut for new club

Former Castleford Tigers winger Justin Carney made his debut at the weekend for his new side in a huge loss.

Dubbed ‘The Tank on the Flank’ – for obvious reasons – Carney became a cult hero on the terraces at the Jungle, only for that to end suddenly in 2014.

Spells at Salford Red Devils and Hull KR followed, but Carney failed to recapture the form he displayed with the Tigers and he returned home in 2018.

Carney recently made his return to rugby league to sign for local Australian side, the Trangie Magpies.

Club president Luke Phillips spoke about the excitement surrounding the move.

“We are going to get his dad to present him with his jersey and hopefully that gets a bit emotional for him.

“Justin has come home to play with Trangie for the first time and it just so happens that it’s his first cousin’s 100th game.”

Following 37 games in the NRL, Carney moved to the United Kingdom, linking up with Castleford Tigers, Salford Red Devils and Hull KR, before finally returning home in 2018.

From there, the powerful winger linked up with the Nyngan Tigers – another local side in the Group 11 season – but has now made the move back to his hometown.

However, Trangie were well beaten by Gilgandra at the weekend.
