Ex-Castleford Tigers man set to play key role in the NRL in 2023 thanks to Hull FC signing

The Newcastle Knights have been making headlines recently with regards to their pursuit of Super League players.

Last week it was confirmed that Huddersfield Giants youngster Will Pryce would be leaving the club for the NRL in 2024 and would be joined at the Knights by Wigan Warriors star Kai Pearce-Paul at the end of the up coming Super League season.

Bevan French of Wigan had also been linked with a move to the Knights as had Salford Red Devils halfback Brodie Croft until they moved for ex-Wigan Warriors halfback Jackson Hastings who is a former Great Britain international.

They already have a Huddersfield Giants youngster in their squad in the shape of England star Dom Young who has developed into a superb winger at the Knights coming through reserve grade to be a top notch NRL flyer. They are also said to be preparing a new deal for Young.

Alongside Young is former Castleford Tigers youngster Bailey Hodgson. The fullback made one appearance for the Tigers in 2020 against Hull KR prior to joining the Knights.

He is yet to feature in an NRL game for the club and has struggled with injuries during his time down under.

There had been rumours that Castleford were considering a move to bring him back to the Jungle but it now seems his NRL career is about to get off the ground as he was confirmed as being part of Newcastle’s all important top 30 for 2023.

The top 30 is an important accolade for any player hoping to play in the NRL and Hodgson has been confirmed as part of the Knights’ as they prepare for the new season.

This could help pave the way for him to play a big role in the 2023 season especially with the Knights struggling in the transfer market for a fullback.

The Knights, who have former Leeds Rhinos boss Brian McDermott as assistant coach, want to move star fullback Kayln Ponga into the halves alongside Hastings but have let go of Tex Hoy to Hull FC which has left the Knights looking for a fullback.

This has opened the door for Hodgson to play a big role and even push for a starting role in 2023.
