Ex-Castleford Tigers man injured on Newcastle Knights debut

Bailey Hodgson is seemingly on the eve of a big year.

The former Castleford Tigers fullback is at Newcastle Knights and has been included in their top 30 for the new season.

He is yet to feature in an NRL game for the club and has struggled with injuries during his time down under.

There had been rumours that Castleford were considering a move to bring him back to the Jungle but it now seems his NRL career is about to get off the ground as he was confirmed as being part of Newcastle’s all important top 30 for 2023.

The top 30 is an important accolade for any player hoping to play in the NRL and Hodgson has been confirmed as part of the Knights’ as they prepare for the new season.

He even trained at fullback a lot in pre-season but could now lose that spot to Lachlan Miller after he joined the club recently.

Hodgson has the chance to lay down a marker as he started at fullback today in pre-season against Cronulla Sharks.

He has had what legendary commentator Andrew Voss described as a “scrambled egg of a performance.”

He produced some big moments of real class, including magic footwork for a try that was disallowed.

However, this was undercut by some errors and now the fullback has limped off the field.

Fortunately, it doesn’t seem too serious but not the big day he would have wanted.
