Featherstone Rovers have announced the signing of former Castleford Tigers man Calum Turner for the 2025 season. Turner has penned a one-year deal with the club and becomes just the latest man to join James Ford’s ranks.
The back makes the move to the Millennium Stadium after spending three seasons with Dewsbury Rams, where he made a total of 54 appearances and scored eight tries. Having had a spell on loan at Featherstone in 2019 and a year with Newcastle Thunder, it’s fair to say the 25-year-old adds plenty of Championship experience to the Flat Cappers’ ranks.
Turner started his career at Castleford and made an impressive Super League debut for the club in 2018, with a try coming against Hull FC at the MKM Stadium. He followed that up with another effort in a win over Warrington Wolves a month later, but failed to nail down a starting spot at Wheldon Road.
As such, in three seasons around the first-team picture at Castleford, he made just 14 appearances and scored four tries.
“I’m delighted to be coming back to Featherstone, I loved my time here before and I jumped at the chance to come back,” Turner said, speaking to the Featherstone Rovers’ club website.
“I’ve learned so much in the last couple of years at Dewsbury, I’ve developed my rugby a lot and I’m looking forward to bringing that to Rovers and helping the club achieve its goals.
“Fordy is putting together a great squad for next year and I’m hungrier than ever to take my game to the next level, I can’t wait to get started.”
Head coach Ford said of his latest signing: “Calum has the potential to really kick on and establish himself as a quality half-back. He is quick, evasive, carries a good left footed kicking game and has a good pass selection. He is competing with some quality players for a spot in our 17 and I can’t wait to watch this unfold.”
Turner joins Jayden Hatton, Jordan Williams, Will Jubb, Zach Herring, Sitaleki Akauola, Clay Webb, Derrell Olpherts, Carlos Tuimavave and Toby Boothroyd in making the switch to Featherstone for next season.
