Former Castleford Tigers man Jacob Miller looks set to feature in this year’s Premier League Nines tournament Down Under. The tournament will take place on the Gold Coast later this month with Miller joining what must be said is a star-studded United Sporting Club line-up.

The Australian was released by the Tigers at the end of the Super League season, despite having a year left to run on his contract. He remains without a club and he is yet to confirm his next step in the professional ranks.

However, he will lace up his boots later this month to represent United SC in the Nines tournament after being named as a starting half-back alongside Blake Austin, who Miller knows from the pair’s time at Wheldon Road together.

There’s a number of other recognisable names in the United SC side, too, with former St Helens man Ben Barba set to feature at full-back, while ex-Salford Red Devils and Hull KR favourite Ken Sio is also included. Peter Mata’utia, another former Castleford Tigers man, is set to be involved, while David Fifita will play, as well.

One of the headline names involved for United SC, though, is Jarryd Hayne, who hasn’t played in the NRL since 2018 following charges which were eventually dropped after a successful appeal.

“Essentially it’s a platform for former players to come back and have a run around,” organiser Anthony Mitchell told Sunday Sesh, per the Daily Telegraph. “It just started to explode and more and more blokes want to come back. Jarryd’s been named in United SC – the Fifita brothers’ team.

“It will be interesting to see if he’s able to pull together what he was able to do in the 13-man format when he was playing. He’s obviously been confirmed by those guys amongst many other ex-NRL players and across a lot of teams.”
