Ex-Castleford Tigers fullback Quentin Laulu-Togaga’e makes surprise switch

Back-to-back Championship Grand Final winning full-back Quentin Laulu-Togaga’e has signed for Sheffield Eagles on a one-month loan deal from Keighley Cougars.

Following the injury to Josh Guzdek against Hunslet Club Parkside, Eagles Director of Rugby Mark Aston has acted quickly to bring in the maverick Laulu-Togaga’e. 

Affectionally known as QLT, the 37-year-old – who enjoyed a magnificent spell at the club from 2011 to 2016 – will not be available for tomorrow’s game against North Wales Crusaders but he is in contention for next week’s trip to Whitehaven.

Discussing the signing, Aston said: “We all know the quality and enthusiasm that QLT brings with him and we feel it’s a great move for the short-term,” 

“He will always be remembered for his first stint with the club but we know he still has more to offer and we can’t wait to welcome him into the squad. 

“The experience he has and the help he can give to some of the younger players within the squad will be invaluable.” 

QLT is thrilled to be back in the Red and Gold, adding: “It’s certainly been a while but I’ve always had a soft spot for the club after spending six years there,”

“I made a lot of great memories and it’s good to have an opportunity to come back on loan, if only for a few games. 

“I am excited and I have got the butterflies again!

“The team has changed, I don’t think anyone is still there from when I was at the club, but I do know a few of the lads. 

“The coaching staff hasn’t changed and a lot of the backroom staff are still there too. 

“I have been in touch with Tubbs even after leaving the Eagles and I’ve been following the club. 

“I saw Tubbs not too long ago at Misi’s 40th and I’ve still got a great relationship with him. 

“I’m grateful to come back, get a few games in and add value to this team with my playing ability but also try to make an impact on the young lads in the squad with the experience I have.”
