Ex-Bradford Bulls star and South Sydney Rabbitohs man Tom Burgess could make shock move

You say the name Burgess and instantly everyone knows who you are talking about.

Whether it’s Sam, twins George and Tom or Luke, it is a name that is synonymous with the sport.

Whilst Sam and George have been in the limelight for the past few months and years for one reason or another, it is now brother Tom that could be the talking point after an interview he gave to The Courier Mail.

Whilst Tom was discussing George’s potential return, the former was also asked about his own future with the salary cap coming into question at the Rabbitohs.

Latrell Mitchell, Damien Cook and Cody Walker are all coming off contract at the same time, which has left Tom fearing for his career at Redfern with the club set to struggle in trying to keep all their stars.

“It might be a bit of a juggling act but we’ll just have to wait and see,” Tom said.

“I’ve just got to keep playing, I’m not too worried about (contracts) now.”

The 30-year-old has played for the Rabbitohs since 2013, playing over 200 times for the club after moving from the Bradford Bulls.

It was touted as an incredible move at the time when considering that the forward was just 21 at the time, but it’s fair to say that Tom and his brothers settled well into life at Souths.

Only Tom still remains playing for the club, though, after Sam retired with a chronic shoulder issue, George made the move to the Wigan Warriors and is now at the St George Illawarra Dragons whilst Luke dropped out of the sport.

It’s fair to say that the Rabbitohs fans love Tom and want him to stay, but like everything in sport and like Tom said “it doesn’t always end in fairytales.”
