‘Everyone f***ing hates me’ – Featherstone’s major coup Joseph Leilua launches bizarre tirade

There’s a certain type of rugby league player who is able to stake a hard reputation for himself as, what he describes, a ‘grub’.

But, for new Featherstone Rovers signing Joey Leilua, he’s proud of that tag because of how he plays the game.

“My whole career, everyone f***ing hates me, but it’s part of my territory,” Leilua told No Limits Boxing.

“If you play how I play you always get that from people – it doesn’t bother me.”

Next up for the former Wests Tigers and Canberra Raiders star is a fight against Chris Heighington on 22 December.

And, it’s one which Leilua is greatly looking forward to.

“I don’t care about the outside world, I’m going to get out there and batter the s**t out of him.

“At the end of the fight hopefully I’m looking at him at the end on the floor.

“He’s a good family man and he’s got some balls to take the fight, but I’m not saying anything bad about him he’s a good bloke – best of luck to him or he will be sleeping.”

Leilua was also keen to stress that he would be just as hard-hitting on the rugby league field if he was playing against a brother.

“I think people find me as a grub and that’s the way I play.

“I don’t care who plays on the other team if it’s my brother or family man, and that’s just the way I am.”
