With the season nearly over, focus has shifted to Super League signings for 2025.
However, we’ve had a look at the best-performing signings ahead of the 2024 season, for each Super League team.
Castleford Tigers
Tex Hoy just about takes this over Sam Wood due to Wood, through no fault of his own, being injured for much of the season.
The signing of Hoy, following his release by Hull FC after just a handful of games this year, turned out to be a masterstroke – he had a transformative effect on the side, and came up with some incredible individual displays of skill on occasion.
Catalans Dragons
Their recruitment for 2025 looks a lot better than the recruitment for 2024, which didn’t really help them kick on from a 2023 Grand Final-reaching season.
However, one of the highlights of their recruitment has been Tariq Sims, a three-time State of Origin winner with NSW, he has slotted into the Catalans pack nicely, and has been almost ever-present.
Huddersfield Giants
Despite being injured for much of the campaign, Adam Swift was so far ahead the side’s other players that he still gets the nod here.
His 11 tries place him alongside Tommy Makinson and Abbas Miski in the try-scorer standings for 2024, in considerably fewer games.
Hull FC
Despite a pretty horrific season of recruitment for the Black and Whites, Herman Ese’ese turned out to be a fantastic signing – an ever-dependable body in the pack also places joint-top in the league for offloads.
Hull KR
Niall Evalds has finally had a relatively injury-free season, which has allowed him to show that he’s one of the best backs in the league.
Starting the season on the wing, he moved back to his more natural full-back role and has been consistently one of the league’s top performers, working well with the likes of Mikey Lewis to push the Robins up the league standing.
Leeds Rhinos
It hasn’t been all plain sailing for Brodie Croft, or his entire side, but he has been a good signing in a side that have played better rugby than their league position and results show, due to error-making.
A total of 21 try assists speak for themselves – and he has stepped up in some big moments this year.
Leigh Leopards
The Leopards’ uptick in form coincided nicely with Matt Moylan being moved to full-back, and he has been excellent – his 16 try assists are higher than that of Jack Welsby and level with George Williams.
London Broncos
This could easily have been winger Lee Kershaw, but Jack Campagnolo’s game-management on occasion worked wonders for the Broncos – he made sure they didn’t get completely lost in the occasion at the start of a fair few matches.
He’ll almost certainly be elsewhere next year, despite only signing from Queensland Cup side Souths Logan Magpies last year.
Salford Red Devils
Nene Macdonald has been a revelation this season.
On the ball he’s fantastic, high in the league standing for carries and tackle busts, and will be vital in play-off games against some big-hitters.
St Helens
Daryl Clark was one of just a few Saints signings this year, and he was faced with the unenviable task of taking the number nine shirt from retiring legend James Roby.
He has been good at hooker this year, despite injury concerns across the season.
Warrington Wolves
Lachlan Fitzgibbon is undoubtedly one of the best forwards in Super League.
Signed from Wests Tigers, he’s been a huge part of what has arguably been the best pack in the league.
This is certainly one of the best signings of 2024.
Wigan Warriors
Luke Thompson was, again, one of just a few signings.
His return from NRL, after swapping St Helens for Canterbury, has been excellent – the all-conquering 2023 side has looked even better for large parts of the campaign, and Thompson is a big part of that.
